On Saturday 12th November we took a small squad of 7 Phoenix swimmers to a disability gala organised by Thetford Lions. For all, except Tom and Helen, this was their first ever competition.
All our swimmers raced really well and lots of medals were achieved.
Mia Hales set the standard by winning gold in the 25m breaststroke, a brilliant achievement! She also swam to Bronze position in the backstroke.
Robert Baines got gold in freestyle and silver in the breaststroke.
Morgan Taylor a gold in the 25m backstroke.
Sean Thackwray a silver in breaststroke
Alisdair Dunn got gold in a very speedy 25m freestyle race and then followed that up with another win in the breaststroke.
Thomas Baines did very well in the 100m races getting gold in freestyle, silver in backstroke and silver in breaststroke showing a very good standard of racing technique in all his events.
Our freestyle relay team, Robert, Helen, Alisdair and Tom, came second in their heat but were out swum in the final by some very strong teams!
The medley relay team of Morgan, Sean, Helen and Tom also swum a very good race. Well done to Helen Thompson for a brilliant butterfly swim!
Also a special mention to Tom who, after winning gold in the 100m free, went on to swim the last leg of the medley relay in the next race and again in the freestyle final straight after!
Overall the event had a great atmosphere and all the swimmers were encouraged, cheered and clapped by supporters and other competitors.
Special thanks to team manager Hazel and Chloe and Craig for all their help and also the families of the swimmers who came and supported them. It was a late finish after a very long medal ceremony so hope you all got home safely!
Well done everybody!
