EPPING Yuletide Gala

Colchester Phoenix received a warm welcome at the Epping Yuletide Gala on 4th December. All 8 swimmers either achieved great personal bests (PBs) and or medals.

Joseph Guild swam a fantastic 50m Freestyle to take a silver medal in 30.34 secs securing a qualifying time for the Essex county championships. He also picked up a bronze in the 50m Fly and took 6th place in 100m Breastroke all his times were PBs.

Youngster of the team, Corey Hare, improved massively on his last performance at Epping, because of his increase in training sessions, picking up two 4th place medals for 50m Fly and 100m Freestyle along with a 5th in the 100m Breast.

Veteran Mark Holmes conquered the 200m Fly with a PB and a gold medal and followed that up with a bronze in the 100m Freestyle and 4th in 50m Fly.

The girls of the team followed the trend. Captain Amelia Edgar was placed 2nd in 100m Backstroke and 100m Freestyle. Chloe Scott worked hard and swam fast to gain PBs in all four of her events.

Ellie Challis had the crowd on their feet cheering her in as she improved on her own East region records in the 50m Backstroke, 50m Freestyle and Breastroke. In the 100m Breastroke Ellie powered through the event to set a British record in the SB2 category. All records are subject to ratification.

Thomas Banes gained a 4th place medal in 50m Breaststroke and 5th in 50m Freestyle.

Captain Sam Inman rounded off the evening with a PB and a silver in the 200m Breastroke to add to his other 3 silver medals in the 100m Backstroke, Breastroke and Freestyle.

Club coach Julie Jago said “It was a brilliant day with success all round, well done to all swimmers.”
