Colchester Phoenix swimmers Helen Thompson, Mark Holmes and Holly Bocking are pictured here in their new Team GB kit as they will be competing as part of the Down Syndrome Swimming GB Team in Paris in a few days time.
They received their kit at the latest DSS-GB training camp which was held in Alnwick, Northumberland last weekend.
A total of 31 swimmers are going to Paris as part of the GB squad, which is the biggest squad they’ve ever had.
Our three swimmers are competing in numerous races and relays over the week-long Down Syndrome European Championships. They are all working hard in training now to be ready for the Championships.
Mark is an experienced competitor and has represented his country many times over the years, but it will be the first time the girls have competed on the International Stage. They are a little nervous but very excited!
Mark’s father, Bill Holmes said “There really is nothing like the excitement and pride that you feel when you hear your son’s name announced at the start of each race swimming for Great Britain.”
Phoenix Head Coach Julie Jago said “Everyone at Colchester Phoenix is very proud of their achievements in qualifying to represent Great Britain in Paris. We will all be cheering them on and looking forward to seeing their medals when they return!”
